In their latest joint study, CRC1425 investigators used integrative scRNA-seq to reveal significant differences in immune cell composition between murine and human carotid atherosclerosis, questioning the translational relevance of standard mouse models for adaptive immune cell research. Clinical associations point to a key role for T-cell driven (auto-)immunity in the formation and instability of human plaques. The study was recently published in Cardiovascular Research and is featured on the cover of that issue.
